This project aims to showcase a cost-effective telehealth service for in-home rehabilitation using an ordinary webcam. Telehealth refers to the delivery of health-related services over a distance including medical care, health information services via the use of telecommunication and information technologies, such as computers and smartphones. The main purpose of telehealth is to ease the convenience for most people by enabling them to get access to health-related services without having to travel a long way to go to the hospital. At the same time, it is especially useful for people who mainly live in remote areas without having any transportation to travel to the hospital. The telehealth service includes the functionalities of online consultation for rehabilitation, rehabilitation online assessment and patient’s recovery analysis. It offers the following benefits for patients in performing daily rehabilitation through remote monitoring. (1) using an ordinary webcam with internet connection for rehabilitation exercises; (2) providing access for both patient and doctor to the skeleton results in a timely manner as soon as the patient has completed the rehabilitation exercises; (3) displaying the percentage of deviation rate of the patient’s skeleton results for different days, for the doctor to further analyze the patient’s recovery status. The benefits are four folds. First, it provides in-home rehabilitation without incurring additional cost for gadgets purchase. Secondly, it requires simple implementation by performing rehabilitation exercises in front of the laptop built-in camera. Thirdly, the instant processing allows the patient’s performance monitored in a timely manner. Lastly, the statistical analysis provides recovery status of the patient.
