Introducing the 'SWIPER'!!! A new revolutionized car wiper using air-water system.

    Inventor

The current work is an attempt to fabricate a smart wiper system for automotive car windscreen cleaning application to reduce temporary blindness (TB). From the literature survey done, it was found that road accidents are more likely to occur in foul weather especially in rainy and windy conditions when drivers experience TB while driving. TB is a phenomena when the inability of the human eyes to see the road clearly due to sudden disturbance of view on the car front windscreen. This occurs during washing of windscreen using the typical ‘wiper-washer mechanism feature’ which is available in most automotive vehicles today. To overcome this, the authors found an interest in developing a smart wiper called ‘SWIPER’. The methodology to fabricate SWIPER uses the principle of ‘plug-and-play’ method using low-cost materials / equipment’s such as aluminum tubes, an independent air compressor and a low-density polyethylene hose (LDPE). The outcome of the work revealed that TB was minimized tremendously during the usage of SWIPER on an actual automotive car. This is due to the high pressure of air subjected to the windscreen just after the water cleaning application performed by the wipers. At the same time, the load on the wipers against the windscreen was reduced due to the high-pressure air subjected to the windscreen. This can increase the lifespan of the wipers. Interestingly, SWIPER showed a significant savings of water by 21.43% as compared to the conventional ‘wiper-washer mechanism feature’. All in all, SWIPER is now ready to be used on any automotive car vehicles with a cost price of RM200.00 – RM400.00 per unit including installation. The price varies mainly due to the different lengths of wipers and the different cubic capacity of the on-board air compressor used.
