ECluck - A Sustainable Chicken Feed

    Inventor

The price hike in chickens has become an alarming issue in Malaysia. Despite a ceiling price of RM8.90 per kg implemented by the government, chickens are being purchased between RM9.80 to RM10.50 per kg due to the recent shortage of supply. Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, Russia accounts for 30% of the global wheat supply while Ukraine for 20% of the global corn supply. This has led to a hike in the prices of corn and soy meal itself, which are used for chicken feed (Yeap, 2022). With the increasing food waste, Malaysia has recorded 17,000 tonnes of food waste every day. According to SWCorp Malaysia, 24% (4,005 tonnes) of this food waste is still edible and is even sufficient to feed 2.9 million people three meals per day. Ecluck is an alternative feed made of 99% food scraps. The main ingredients include apples, apple peels, banana peels, oats, flour, and baking soda. Turning 1000kg of food waste into 15 packets of 750kg chicken feed. Valued at a reasonable price, RM80 per packet, farmers' production costs will be lowered. Subsequently, the production cost per chicken will decrease, decreasing the market value.
